Undergraduate and Highschool Outreach and Research Projects

Fields Undergraduate Summer Research Program: On Field Extensions of Nonarchimedean Local Fields and Local Langlands Correspondence, Summer 2023

Program Webpage

Co-supervised with Daniel Johnstonne and Camelia Karimianpour

Students: Shreya Dhar, River Newman, Grayson Plumpton, Chenglu Wang

This project focused on the problem of finding a complete classification of cubic extensions of local fields.

Students submitted a paper based on this work: Arxiv

Mathematics Department Mentorship Program: Knots in Coxeter Complexes, University of Toronto, January – July 2023

Students: Dylan Burke, Geoffrey Cuffchartrand, Amin Mobedi

This project focused on constructing knots as galleries associated to words in affine Coxeter systems of rank three. We studied the properties of the words associated to the knots they produce.

Students presented two talks in the 2023 Canadian Undergraduate Mathematical Conference at University of Toronto .

Mathematics Department Mentorship Program: Knots and Fractals, University of Toronto, January – July 2022

Students: Joshua Broden, Noah Nazareth, Niko Voth

This project focused on determining which knots can be embedded in successive iterations of certain fractals as the Menger sponge and the Sierpinsky Tetrahedron

Students presented two talks and one poster in the 2022 Canadian Undergraduate Mathematical Conference at Laval University.

Quanta Magazine wrote an article based on this project. You can see it here: Quanta.
